It's a go in Portland

For those who didn't watch the Portland city council debate last night, the result was positive for soccer fans. With a 4-1 vote, the re-model of PGE Park was approved and the Timbers are pretty much set for MLS now.

It's a complicated deal that isn't universally supported in Portland. For the other side of the debate go here.

It's been an ugly battle to get the stadium approved with incredibly ignorant views on the future of MLS consistently voiced by opponents of the stadium. That type of noise will continue for a little while before something else gets in the claw of The Angry Taxpayer (tm).

But for the soccer fan there is little to do now but wait until the Timbers Army arrive, overwhelm BigSoccer's News and Analysis and General boards, alienate grumpy old fans of original MLS teams, attempt to break TFC's record for traveling support by "invading" Seattle and Vancouver and cause at least one father of three to write a nasty letter to the editor about how he will never bring his family back to another game because of the foul language coming out of the supporter's section.

It should be fun.

About bloody time. It's gonna be awesome to see the Cascadia Cup between Seattle, Portland and Vancouver become the second-biggest prize in MLS, after the Cup.
