Toronto FC announced this morning that Chris Cummins will not be returning to the team for 2010.
This was a little earlier than many expected it would be announced and it likely has to do as much with Cummins wanting to go back as it does with TFC looking to move on.
As we've said here may times, Cummins was far from the biggest problem with this team and hopefully people won't look at this move as a solution to the larger problems.
Four head coaches in four years. That is not a path to long-term success.

Exactly. No one wants to work under Mo. You are destined to fail. I'm starting to think that Mo may have had something to do with Carver wanting out too.
Chris' family was back home, he was not the official head coach and that sums it up.
Now, who will they bring in and what oher changes are we going to see?
This could be an interesting off-season, but I expect we will see Mo do his usually heel dragging and next year we will start with an interim head coach and it will take a while until we have a real coach again... not like we have really ever had one.
I really don't get all the Mo bashing. This team has a core that is 100x better than last year.
Wayne:
There are good pieces there but the bottom line is there are massive holes in the squad. The "Mo bashing" goes on because many of the holes are the same holes that were there at the end of last season and the season before that.
The defence can't be trusted to protect a lead and the forwards can't score on a consistent basis. In 3 years Mo has failed to address either one of these concerns. Instead defenders were traded (Tyrone Marshall and Todd Dunivat) and the clubs most consistent goal scorer (Danny Dichio) was forced out.
In a league with such a small salary cap $300,000 was given to a forward that has never scored on a consistent basis (Vitti), $200,000 was given to another forward who misses far too many chances to be relied on (Barrett).
It is impossible for any coach to come in and work under Mo. It seems that Mo is unable hand over control of the squad entirely to someone that he hand picks. Chris Cummins was kept on as the interm coach for one reason, an excuse for Mo to use if and when the team faulters. Mo has had months to find a suitable replacement for John Carver yet hasn't interviewed a single candidate.
Isn't it convenient that every time things seem to be at their worst something happens, like signing JDG in the middle of a horrible summer run or form. Everyone seems to forget about the problems but they don't go away.
Don't buy into anything when a GM tells you 5 year plan. That is just an excuse for them not to be fired.
When someone knows what they are doing it doesn't take that long to succeed. Sigi Schmid in Seattle or Bruce Arena in LA. Heck Dallas did it in less than a season. Listen to Monday's It's Called Football podcast to hear how they turned it around quickly.
Bottom line is Mo's time has past. Three years is more than enough time to put a solid MLS team (from the coach down) together.
