And the name is....

USL News is breaking a story today that shows that one member of the TOA breakaway group has registered a name for the proposed new league.

That name?

The North American Soccer League.

You can't make this stuff up.

In other TOA/USL-1 news, the TOA group has shot back at the USL-1's attempts to bankrupt its proposed Minnesota team and thus put the amount of teams in the league below the threshold of seven (with a promise to get to eight) needed for sanctioning. It's done so by adding two more groups to its proposal -- Baltimore (The pre-existing USL-2 Crystal Palace Baltimore) and Tampa Bay, which was scheduled to enter the USL-1 next year as the Rowdies. So, now there are nine teams ready to play.

In the NASL, apparently.

More importantly there are now less than 8 teams in USL-1 too. This move was a real kick in the gut for USL-1 since TB and CPB were in the USL1 camp.

I wouldn't lose sleep on the name. There aren't terribly many formulations that you can give to a soccer league in North America, after all.

how about they call it...
NAPSL -- North American Premier Soccer League
NAS -- North America Soccer
MLS -- Minor League Soccer ;)
S2 -- Soccer 2 (second division)

As a fan of the Montreal Manic (who had the real Ultras led by the legendary Tony Incollingo, not these poseurs waving their white flags of surrender and who couldnt make 10% the originals could in a 55,000 seat stadium), I take offense to the NASL naming.
Its cheap and desperate, sort of like this whole deal.

I take more offense giving these TOA guys so much attention since Montreal and Vancouver, by far their biggest teams, already have one foot out the door.

TOA without Mtl and Van have zero bargaining power but the two canadian teams need something to do over the next 12 and 24 months so we are all just going to NOT pretend that theyre looking for any league just to keep busy in the meantime.

Its a failed concept from the start.
