Hey, he did mention the word "playoffs" once in this statement:
It's a bit telling that the British press even asked him for a justification for missing a friendly with England to play in the Western Conference final. How important could the penultimate game of the pub league be, really?
One wonders what Beck's decision would have been if England were in a playoff this weekend as well. Actually, one doesn't wonder that much. Don Garber is likely sending Fabio Capello a Christmas card this year.
It's kinda stupid that the league puts itself in the situation where it's legitimately possible that its biggest stars could pull out of a playoff game to play in an international qualifier, but that's a subject we've been over and over and over, isn't it?

Messi was almost not allowed to represent Arg in the U23 world up a year or 2 back for similar reasons. It's just the money and the clauses on the contract that talks, whether it's the EPL, premira liga, Serie A or even the Local-County-League--For-Bored-Housewives.
On the game itself, what are your thoughts? Eng or brazil? WE've got a preview up on our blog and would love to hear your thoughts:
