Reliable sources (the same sources that confirmed Dale Mitchell's firing prior to it being announced officially) are confirming this morning that Stephen Hart will have the interim label removed and become the next head coach of the Canadian men's national team.
The CSA's public line will remain that they are still doing a "through search" but Hart is working with the understanding that he is in a full-time role.
In two separate stints as interim coach, Hart has a record of 9-2-5, leading Canada out of the group stage at the Gold Cup twice. On a more aesthetic note, Hart's teams have played a eye-pleasing possession game and have outscored opponents 24-13.
When the search began to replace Mitchell, many hoped that a sexy, foreign coach could be brought in. However, the reality is that the Canadian players seem to respond to Hart, he's well respected and, as his record shows, he manages to get results. His appointment may not make headlines around the world, but it's probably the best solution for Canadians.
