Ohhhh Amando Guevaraaaaa

I've talked a lot about Amado Guevara over the past year. My position remains that if his name was Alex Goodman instead of Amado Guevara we'd hear far less about his alleged tendency to "take games off" remains the same. I don't wish to belabour that today as a lot of people I know and respect feel that I've become blind to his failings. So, we'll agree to disagree.

What everyone does agree on is that Amado could occasionally be brilliant. It's unclear where he fits in a crowded midfield, but it's also unclear who is going to the set-pieces next year.

It's a bit unfortunate that the news that he had signed with Motagua was leaked through the Honduran press before TFC could announce things themselves. But, that's also their own fault. If TFC wasn't so black and white about releasing information at the "right" time they could avoid situations like this. They told Guevara they weren’t going to exercise their option on his contract a while ago. What good was accomplished by not letting fans know this?

Obsessing over the control of information is a disease in modern sports management. Relax guys, you ain't protecting state secrets (and you have more leaks than the Titanic).

But, anyway. Amado. I think I speak for most TFC fans when I wish him well. We expected the worst when he first game and were pleasantly surprised. I, for one, will be cheering him on in South Africa (running the risk of the scorn by the Voyageurs).

Amado is definately someone I would've like to see in a TFC kit this season. JDG as a advanced MF Guevara would be able to sit in a deeper role and spray passes all over the pitch. This would've been very exciting.

You're going to South Africa?

I'll be cheering for Honduras too. In fact, I want all CONCACAF teams to advance, and all Asian and African teams to crash and burn, to strengthen the argument that CONCACAF deserves 4 full spots instead of the current 3.5.

I'm trying to go to South Africa, yes. Brazil is a more likely goal, however. Regardless, I'll be all over the World Cup (likely with a dedicated program). More info to come.

I'm not involved in the admin of MLS or TFC, but isn't it possible that they didn't make his release public, not for the fans, but for OTHER teams (since they hold his MLS rights), so thatvthey could still potentially get something for him (draft pick, allocation $$), if another team was interested?

Maybe. But other MLS clubs would have been aware of his situation and would have wanted assurances that he was going to play the year in MLS

Amado didn't have much trade value because of his age and cost.

indeed, amado was one of the reds this past season actually worth cheering over, he'll be fun to watch during the world cup (name me another current/ex tfc over there on the world stage) grateful for all the spectacular moments, adios amigo!

it was widely known, almost as soon as Preki was name TFC coach, that Amado wasn't coming back to TFC.

Unlike Duane, I have no love for the Honduran NT and will be hoping they get whacked hard in all 3 games they play and then get sent home to Tegucigalpa with tail firmly between legs.
