Canadian supporters name player of the year

The Voyageurs have named Mike Klukowski and Karina Leblanc as the winners of their Men’s and Women’s Canadian International Player of the Year award for 2009.

Polling was conducted online on the Voyageurs message board throughout December.

Klukowski was named based on his consistent play at both the club and country level. He was also The 24th Minute's top Canadian performer of the year. CSA player of the year Simeon Jackson was second in the voting, while MLS Cup winner Will Johnson finished third.

The choice of Leblanc also differs from the CSA's choice of Christine Sinclair. The Voyageurs favoured Leblanc based on her strong play with the L.A. Sol of WPS, where she was named to the league's all-star team.

Sinclair finished second, while Sky Blue FC midfielder Kelly Parker finished third. Parker has likely been the player that has most benefited from the change of direction of the women's national team under new coach Carolina Morace.
